12th Annual Family Business Forum

Event Topic: Succession

Succession may be the most difficult time in the life of every family business and there is no end to the advice one hears.  It involves far more than just planning.  With the odds of making it from one generation to the next at 30%, if you are a family business owner this is one session you cannot afford to miss.

From his research on over 18,000 family companies and two studies on the world’s largest most successful family businesses, Dr. Astrachan will reveal activities shown to dramatically improve succession chances. With his over 30 years’ experience studying and working with family businesses, his explanations are easy to follow and rich with examples. Dr. Astrachan will explain how any family can implement success practices and is not afraid to examine the details of getting things done. He will also examine things that can be done form an early age to raise a family that will be committed to and lead well, the family business.  Specific succession questions will be addressed as well, like when should you have a transition, who should choose a successor, and how do you assure multigenerational family harmony.

Key takeaways:

  • The three practices every family business should do to ensure continuity and success
  • Practical ideas for raising children to have high self-esteem and be good owners (including subject areas every owner should know)
  • Easy steps to improve almost any family relationship.
