Brent joined SecurAlarm in 2006 after attending Tufts University for an undergraduate degree and later Marquette University, where he pursued his Master’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering.
Brent began his career with the company as a Project Manager where he was first exposed to what it feels like to work alongside an amazing team of people who are masters in their crafts. Shortly thereafter, he transitioned to Manager of Engineering where he learned how to improve standards and processes. During his own journey of learning and self-discovery, he began to truly understand the power of serving others in ways that are meaningful to them. Today as the Chief Operating Officer, Brent has the honor of helping to grow SecurAlarm’s team and shape their culture as they pursue their reason for existence as a company: We Care, So We Protect. Brent has a true passion for people and unlocking lasting happiness through personal growth. Outside of work, Brent will be found with his amazing wife Stacey and their growing family of girls!

Bruce C. Young is a third generation shareholder of The Behler-Young Company, where he serves on the Board of Directors and as Secretary.

Ana Gonzalez is the Director of the Family Owned Business Institute (FOBI), and academic center at the Seidman College Business dedicated to champion and serve family businesses through scholarship, education and advocacy.

Todd Custer is the President and Chief Operating Officer of Custer, Inc. in Grand Rapids, Michigan. As a second-generation owner with his brothers, Todd oversees the daily operations of the company and its subsidiaries, Century Floor Space and C&S Electric Service.

The Grand Rapids Label Company was founded in the late 19th century and has remained a family business ever since, with Bill Muir serving as the fourth-generation President.
Bill leads the company of 70 employees, which includes 2 cousins. Muir family members are encouraged to join and “get their hands dirty” for their first jobs. He has been involved with FBA since 2007.

John Mulder is a third generation family business owner. John is passionate about providing high quality decorative finishes on metal parts.
John serves in many non-profit roles including: President for the Michigan Chapter NASF, board member for AIAG’s CQI-11 automotive plating board, as a board member for the FBA, and as a member of the first impressions team at Journey Church. His educational background in Industrial Engineering, where he graduated Cum Laude from Western Michigan University. John enjoyed gaining 10 years of work experience at other companies before joining the family business in 2010. John is married and has three wonderful daughters. The family loves boating, swimming and spending time with extended family on vacations.
Dave is the former COO of Skytron, located in Grand Rapids. Skytron is a global medical capital equipment suppliers and is a second generation company owned by the Mehney family and led by Dave Mehney.

Ellie is the Founder of Successful Generations which offers a variety of services to help members of the next generation of family philanthropy, family business, and family wealth.
CPA, Grand Rapids Chamber’s Vice President of Finance & Operations
Kate Wezeman, CPA is The Grand Rapids Chamber’s Vice President of Finance & Operations. She joined the Chamber team in June of 2017 and has worked in both public accounting and as a controller in the private sector prior to her current role.
In addition to being a licensed Certified Public Accountant, Kate has her Master of Science in Taxation, is an Enrolled Agent with the IRS, a Certified Tourism Ambassador and a SHRM – Certified Professional. While Finance is her main role at The Chamber, she also heads Operations, HR and IT. Her team of four keeps the Chamber running smoothly and ensures an excellent member and staff experience.
While away from The Chamber, Kate enjoys reading, watching MSU basketball, hiking with her husband, taking long walks with her 2 dogs, Tucker and Mojo, and playing Euchre with friends. As a new empty nester, Kate is delighted when her 2 daughters are home for a visit.
Vice President of Business & Talent Development, Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce
Attah serves as a member of the Chamber’s Leadership Team and is responsible for the strategic direction of the Chamber’s business growth related services and initiatives. He oversees the talent development, inclusion and business services teams and programs.
Previously, Attah served as the Director of Dream Fulfillment at SpringGR, an entrepreneur development program working to expand the intellectual, social, and financial capital of entrepreneurs with limited access to resources. His role included oversight of the program, business development and business coaching. Attah holds a Bachelor of Arts from Calvin College and a Master of Business Administration from Cornerstone University.
Vice President & General Manager, Direct Supply
Michelle Timmerman is Vice President and General Manager of Direct Supply Inc., a Grand Rapids-based wholesale distributor of interior construction materials.
A second-generation family business leader, Michelle’s history in the company, business management experience, and love for design drive her passion for the business. Direct Supply Inc. supplies manufacturers, fabricators, retailers, and builders with raw materials and components that go into finished goods, such as furniture, casework, countertops, and cabinetry.
Steve Datema, PE, LEED AP
Senior Project Manager & Director of Innovation, Triangle Associates
Steve graduated from Western Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering and is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Michigan. As a Fifth Generation family member, he began his career working as a Laborer at Triangle; eventually serving as a Project Engineer & Assistant Superintendent enroute to his current role as a Project Manager.

Mackie Woodruff is a fourth-generation family business member of West Michigan based Reenders Inc, and Heritage Property Management. Throughout their more than 70 years as a family owned and operated real estate development, construction, and management company, they have been dedicated to bringing the highest quality housing and services to their residents, families, and communities.
Concentrated primarily in the multifamily, senior independent and assisted living sectors, Reenders and Heritage currently maintain a portfolio of over 2500 housing units across the state. Over Mackie’s many years with the family business, he has filled roles in numerous functions across the organization, from onsite construction to accounting and IT, allowing him to gain unique insight into the interworking’s of the overall business. In his current position as Director of Development for Reenders Inc., he oversees new projects from inception through financing.
While not at work Mackie and his wife Wendi love to spoil their two cats, and share in their love of the outdoors, travel, and finding amazing foods everywhere.
Prior to joining the Family Business Alliance team as Director in October of 2020, Robin was the Marketing Director at Rhoades McKee, an underwriter of the Family Business Alliance.
She resides in the Forest Hills community and enjoys the variety of outdoor activities that Michigan has to offer.
Membership Engagement Manager
Mary joins Family Business Alliance with extensive non-profit experience. Her responsibilities included implementation of the organization’s mission through fundraising events, corporate engagement, and volunteer management. She is also a Co-Owner of the Exercise Coach, a franchise fitness studio in Grand Rapids.
As the Engagement Manager, Mary manages and coordinates resources for over 160 members. She connects family organizations throughout West Michigan with the tools, strategies, and partners to elevate leadership, navigate governance, and create connections with the family business community.
Away from work, Mary enjoys spending time with her three sons, practicing yoga, bicycling, skiing and enjoying the many outdoor activities Michigan has to offer.
Marketing & Events Manager
Aislinn joined Family Business Alliance in Winter 2022 after working in marketing and events for a local company. Upon completing her Bachelor of History at MSU, she earned a master’s in Social Innovation from GVSU.
Her passion for family business stems from the impact family businesses have throughout the community, her love of continued education, and Aislinn’s personal connection to two West Michigan family businesses. Helping connect the region’s many family businesses with resources they need to sustain is her favorite aspect of her role at FBA.
Personally, Aislinn enjoys traveling, being an aunt to two nieces and two nephews, and keeping active through various sports and hobbies.
